03.002 Fire Code and Occupancy Requirements

FIRE CODE AND OCCUPANCY

Purpose

In order to ensure the safety of Recovery Works clients safety equipment must be maintained.

Policy

On a monthly basis the Director of Operations or other staff member will conduct an inspection of the fire suppression and safety equipment located in the facility.

Procedure

1. All documentation including certificate of occupancy and required evacuation routes are posted in a suitable area.

2. All emergency lighting systems should be operational, including emergency lights and illuminated exit signage.

3. Egress routes should be free of debris and clearly marked on appropriate signage.

4. Each Fire Extinguisher should be inspected by staff, with the card signed off on the back.

5. HVAC systems should be operational and if mold is suspected a mold test performed.

6. Stairs should be inspected to ensure handrails are provided and no obstructions would create a tripping hazard.
